A little about me outside of the therapy room:
I’m a proud mom to a vibrant, brilliant, deeply-feeling toddler who has changed the way I see the world in ways I never expected. Children and nature are two of my favourite teachers, and I find myself coming back to their lessons about curiosity, connection, and being present in both my work and everyday life. When I’m not chasing after my mini-me, you’ll probably find me listening to music, hosting board game nights, playing volleyball, watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, or taking far too many photos of my rescue cat Meatball and my English bulldog Dumpling.
Finding the right therapist matters. If something here resonates with you and you think we might be a good fit, I’d love to connect!
Hello! I’m Trina – a Registered Psychotherapist and the owner of Trina Martin Counselling.
I am work individuals (ages 12+) to help them heal from what has hurt them and reconnect with who they are outside of their experiences. My area of expertise is trauma - including Complex PTSD and dissociative disorders, and supporting people navigating the lasting effects of childhood trauma, abuse, neglect, and sexual violence. I also work with people experiencing relationship challenges, life transitions, infertility issues, postpartum depression/anxiety, and burnout.
With nearly 15 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I understand how pain, loss, and grief can shape the way we see ourselves and move through the world. My approach is anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, collaborative, and grounded in compassionate curiosity. I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy, tailoring our work to each client’s needs and goals. I believe therapy is about more than just managing symptoms; it’s an opportunity to develop a deeper relationship with ourselves, understand the unique ways in which we’ve learned to cope with adverse life events, and create space for new ways of being that feel more authentic and aligned with who we are.
After spending the past decade in a clinical leadership role within a community organization, I’ve returned my focus to the work I love most: sitting with people through the complicated, messy, and sometimes surprising process of change. Sessions with me are, above all else, human - a collaborative conversation that can feel heavy and also freeing, that can include tears as well as laughter, and where you will be challenged and also held. You don’t need to have everything, or even anything, figured out before you start this process. We’ll walk this journey together.
Alongside my work with clients, I also offer clinical supervision and consultation to other mental health professionals. I know how important it is to have a space where you can ask questions, work through challenges, and develop confidence in your approach. I value creating that same kind of supportive, collaborative space for peers as they form their own identity as a therapist.
