Registered Psychotherapist

Brooke McLatchie

Hello! I’m Brooke McLatchie, Registered Psychotherapist and owner of Psychotherapy with Brooke. I work with individuals, couples and families to help navigate challenges whether they be rooted in the past or unfolding in the present. I have been privileged enough to be trusted with some of people’s biggest and toughest moments. If you are in search of a therapist who is warm but direct, challenging but fair, and known to include humour in session, I may be the therapist for you.

Over the last decade, I have worked across a wide range of mental health settings with children, families, couples, and individuals. Today, my primary focus is supporting those who want to process past trauma, better understand how it continues to influence their present, and create healthier patterns moving forward. I am a level one certified Accelerated Resolution Therapy trained psychotherapist and have appreciated the benefits of this type of therapy being used to help individuals not feel defined or controlled by their trauma.

In addition to working with those wanting to process past trauma, I work with couples who are wanting to improve their communication, recognize how differences in personality, communication styles, and emotional needs may be working against rather alongside one another.

Relationships shape nearly every aspect of our lives. Our relationship with ourselves, our partners, our families, our friends, and even our colleagues. When those relationships become strained, we often assume they are simply ‘hard.’ Sometimes they are and maybe you identify them as no longer contributing in a positive way to your life. Other times, they have become misunderstood. Relationship-focused therapy can help uncover these patterns and create new ways of understanding both ourselves and those around us.

In addition to working with trauma processing and relationship work, I have extensive experience in working with individuals navigating anxiety, burnout, and grief in varying capacities. I often include a psychoeducational aspect in my sessions, helping build a better understanding of how the brain and nervous system responds to stress, trauma, relationships and life’s many other challenges.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the following modalities:

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Gottman Method for Couples

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

Certifications and Trainings:

  • Bachelors of Arts in Behavioural Psychology

  • Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology

  • Couples Counselling Level 1 & 2 Gottman Institute

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy Level 1 from Rosenzweig Center for Rapid Recovery

Personal Note:

I am a mother of 2 young children who on a daily basis leave me wondering: do I have any idea what I’m doing? They constantly humble me and remind me how challenging being a parent is…especially while trying to simultaneously be a partner, have a career, befriend all the animals everywhere, and take on a new hobby every five minutes. I’m someone who is easily excited about a conversation revolving around food, animals (dogs and cows especially!), movies, and any and every creative hobby (hi, my name is Brooke and I am a crafting addict). Life is hard and one of the hardest parts is not letting it pull you down with it. The conversations that occur within the therapeutic space that we create can be sad and often feel so dark, but my approach has always been one that includes humour. There is always room in therapy for humour…and swearing.

If you‘ve read this far and feel like we might be a good fit, I’d love to connect. Please reach out to book a session or arrange a free initial consultation. Finding the right therapist matters and I’d be happy to help you decide whether I’m the right fit for you or if someone else on the team is.
